Welcome to the Small Business Development Center, SBDC, at The Urban League of Greater Cleveland

Our Mission
The Mission of the SBDC is to contribute to the economic growth of the Greater Cleveland market by providing a one-stop business information portal and hands-on education throughout the entire lifecycle of a small business.


The Best Performing Center in Ohio!

The Urban League of Creater Cleveland's Small Business Development Center was named the "Best Performing Center" in the state of Ohio at the Small Business Development Centers of Ohio's 2007 Statewide Conference held in Columbus, Nov. 7-8. The SBDC exceeded goals by 300%.

The Urban League of Greater Cleveland developed the SBDC to assist those budding entrepreneurs aspiring to become successful business owners. In June of 2004, the Center was designated the Small BusinessDevelopment Center for Cleveland and Cuyahoga County by the Ohio Deparment of Development. It is the only SBDC in the country to be housed in an Urban League affiliate.

Since 2003, the SBDC has serviced over 4,000 business contacts, which annually generate between $12 million and $15 million in the greater Cleveland area.

Since 1917, the Urban League,of Greater Cleveland has provided 90 years of interracial leadership between African Americans and Cleveland's business community. The mission of the Urban League of Greater Cleveland is to enable African Americans and other minority members to develop and exercise their potential on par with all other Americans through research advocacy and provision of services.

What We Offer...
The business center offers guidance and assistance to business owners spanning their entire lifecycle. Whether you are an entrepreneur who wants to explore your business idea or an existing business owner looking to take your business to the next level, the center is designed to provide assistance, training and resources.

Core business services to include:
    • One-On-One Counseling
- Client focus with operational advise on how to mange your business.
- Assistance in determining if business ideas have merit, getting started
  and creating a strong business plan.

    • Business Education and Training
- The center offers training on critical business development topics such as
- Business Plan Development, Marketing, Technology,
  and Accounting/Bookkeeping.
- Networking events that put clients in contact with various
  small business owners to learn from their business experiences.

    • Access To Capital Information Portal
- Provides accurate information on requirements for
  obtaining various business funding.
- Assist entrepreneurs in applying for and acquiring loans,
   venture capital and other funds.
- Confidentail meetings with advisor discussing credit issues and
   how to establish, build and grow long-term relationships with financial
   institutions. For individuals who do not immediately qualify for capital,
   advisors at the business center will assist in establishing a roadmap
   that will significantly enhance their ability to qualify for future funding.

The center provides one-on-one counseling with Advisors by appointment only. Request for a consultation is also available online at www.ulcleveland.org/sbdc.  Please visit our website on a regular basis to stay abreast of our current and future programs and access a regularly updated list of resources to assist you with your business venture.

The center is conveniently located at the Urban League of Greater Cleveland, 2930 Prospect Ave. and is open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday thru Friday. For your convenience, we offer additional counseling services by appointment only at John Carroll University.
